A Frame House Interior with a Japandi Style Project Description
My partner and I bought our first home in Truckee, CA after a year of living nomadically. As a result of our nomad-year we have almost zero furniture and need style direction for our great room (living + dining). The house is an alpine-style A-frame. We dislike the stone hearth, which we feel is cliched mountain style. We also dislike the ceiling light fixture/chandelier hanging over the dining space and would like to change it for something that matches the decor of the rest of the room. What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?

We love lamps! We try to minimize our use of overhead lighting as much as possible to opt for the (in our opinion) superior light that floor lamps, table lamps, and even candles and candelabras can provide.

Since your room gets plenty of sunlight your color options are quite broad.
For your main color, we chose to use white/off-white as it offers a fresh, clean, feel to the space. White and off-white colors are often a favorite for walls because they are light, neutral, and match most color schemes. They are known to make rooms feel more airy and spacious.
Use a matte finish paint because it will be helpful in camouflaging those surface imperfections such as bumps and cracks as it does not reflect light. Just be careful because matte finish is more difficult to clean. You may also need to touch up scratches or marks by adding more of the same paint in the future.
