Contemporary Home with Accent Fireplace Wall Project Description
We just bought a new house and would love help figuring out the joined living / dining area, the home office and the master bedroom. The house has quite a few windows which is tricky and we'd love to combine different styles modern/glam/Scandinavian/industrial and still look well put together. Also have two young kids so functional low maintenance furnishings appreciated. I love plants and greenery so would love to incorporate them into the decor. For Floor plan - refer to the great room, dining and kitchen for this area.This will be the main area we will have to entertain, we picture the living room to be more of an adults space. We'd want a TV here and would like to explore installing an electronic fireplace. I like the idea of a white couch and brown leather chairs, or maybe a oversized ottoman but its important for everything to be child friendly and low maintenance (easy to clean off stains, sofa cushions that do not require rotating and fluffing, etc.). We'd love some storage options as well that are discrete e.g. sofa/ottoman with space underneath (for kids clutter, magazines, blankets)
For dining, we'd like a nice big table for at least 6 people, if it can be extendable to 8, even better. We've love comfortable chairs to sit on, potentially a bench on one side.

I'd love for our master bedroom to be our sanctuary - a bit of an escape from the "work" of chores / and actual work in the home office, and the children's clutter. We thought a storage bed (hidden storage) may be helpful for sheets etc. and seasonal clothing.
We dont plan to have a TV in the room but would love a comfortable seating spot for us to chat, catch up and also read! I love books and my husband loves reading news etc on the iPad.

I'd love the idea of having a little home library that's also my home office, I'll be working from home most days and our family loves to read (and love the beauty and the beast library).
Its a long-ish room and wondered if we might have one corner be used as a small gym space for yoga and weights (but this is less important).

Combined Living/Dining:
Using a light and pale color will enhance the light and the space in your rooms.
For your main color, we chose to use white/off-white as it offers a fresh, clean, feel to the space. White and off-white colors are often a favorite for walls because they are light, neutral, and match most color schemes. They are known to make rooms feel more airy and spacious.
Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish

If you only go the standard 6" to 8" past the edge of the window, when you draw the drapery open, a portion of your window will still be covered with drapery. Approx. 1/3 of the window would always be covered with drapery.
I think it will look nice either way, it really depends on how important it is to have a full view from these windows.
We also still have a set of renderings available for the master bedroom as we've only done the one set. We can make the change for the nightstands, add the mirror, incorporate the built-in desk, and extend the drapery to the corners for another set of renderings.

Re: desk - good idea on the pocket doors, do you have any suggestions on how we'd have it built? Cupboard in the middle with drawers on both sides?
