Project Description

We are a former startup company that has made it past the startup phase. We need help with our office. We don't want any google/facebook startup interiors. It needs to have a homey vibe.

We currently occupy 4 different apartment units (each on their own floor) and need to come to a decision with how to design the spaces so that they are also functional to work/live in being that some people who work here also live here.

This project is focused on the "dining room and living room" area as indicated on the floor plan of level 3.

The build is divided by floor in the following ways -

- Fourth floor to be the office/work floor
* - Third floor to be the communal and conference area *
- Second floor to be more of a cafe/library
- First floor to be a lounge/movie space

We have about 10-15 people that reside here and everyone needs to feel like comfortable using all floors while keeping them functional. We are open to removable wallpaper.

We are leasing however, so things like painting and doing any kind of large permanent damage to the walls and ceilings would be an issue.

We need the space to be ready by June 5th.

We are hosting 15-20 people that will go through a training program this summer on the 2nd floor starting in June for about 3 months and they will all be living on the 1st floor dorm/bunk style!

The 3rd floor needs to be able to hold about 15 people for announcement/meeting type things, eating areas and lounging space. We want a conference table here part of time. We are open to 1 larger table or smaller tables that can break down for a more multifunctional use.

What do you currently dislike about the room?

It doesn't feel complete or homey. The furniture doesn't work great in the space.

We're having a really hard time with this because we have so many different tastes. I know the feelings we need to have from this area are a bit of formality to keep from people just making it a mess and for more serious group meetings but also feel comfortable enough to come here to work together, eat, socialize.

I think generally speaking we would like to stay away from the stereotypical techy (google/apple) type feel but are very open. I think it would be a breath of fresh air to have things that feel more sturdy/hardy/permanent/authentic.

What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?

We have black Steelcase Think chairs that we purchased recently and will be using those. We will also be purchases top down bottom up light filtering single cell blinds in an off white but are open to curtains or valances for a darker feel when it's bright out or need to block light/glare on our presentation board/wall.

I attached a "Self-Made Man" image because I know some people like that sculpture and any type of historical figures that really made a difference or had strong influence to make the world a better place...dating all the way back to Greek Philosophers (Aristotle, etc.). Not saying this needs to be incorporated at all but that is the type of people that work here.

Additional comments to designers

Needs List:

-Conference Table or small tables that can break apart or be pushed together, that can sit 8-10 and then other seating for about 5-7 more. This can include bar seating, couch or chair seating, etc.

-Table or bar height table for eating and overflow conference seating in the dining room area that still allows for visibility of the white board.

-Comfortable type seating (couch/sofa/armchair/loveseat) for overflow conference seating for people that don't like being at the tables...and another option to sit and eat/mingle when not in conference/meeting mode

-Lamps or lighting to light up darker corner areas in the evening (need extra tall lamps by the white board to reduce glare or uplight or lamp light with drum shades)

-Window treatments (we like the idea of light filtering roller or cellular blinds with the addition of heavier curtains for when we need it to be darker for glare issues but isn't a necessity..more a hope/wish)

Wish List:
-A way to display our photo/team member picture wall (you can see them a bit in the pictures)
-Bar stools to maybe utilize the kitchen pass through bar/counter areas
-a durable rug that can withstand heavy traffic
-Low maintenance plants
-Wall art or an accent wall (removable wallpaper?)

Since your room gets plenty of sunlight your color options are quite broad.

For your main color, we chose to use white/off-white as it offers a fresh, clean, feel to the space. White and off-white colors are often a favorite for walls because they are light, neutral, and match most color schemes. They are known to make rooms feel more airy and spacious.

Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
