Modern Rustic Cabin Living Room Design

Project Description

We have a log cabin that needs a refresher/modernization. Want to start with the living room/dining room areas and could expand from there. We really want to brighten up the place, but don't want this to feel too impersonal--this is our family home, so we want to keep our personalities in it, We love travel, plants, cozying up and listening to records. We contemplated the idea of painting the interior white, but have decided only to do the plaster and paneled walls if anything. Also open to staining the beams dark. I'd love to refinish the floors, but that may be too much right now...

What do you currently dislike about the room?

It's too dark, too much yellow/red/orange, we really want to lighten things up. I would like a lighter or brighter couch, white/black/grey rug instead of multicolored, different colored walls (probably white.). We don't like the chandeliers in the house, would like to replace (maybe extra budget for that).
We LOVE plants but right now they are all under the grow lights in the corner and we want to spread them throughout the room.

What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?

Our record cabinet, as well as the mirror, chair and overhead light on that part of the room (that corner is all fairly new and modern).
We want to keep the piano, the guitar and base, the skull over the fireplace is really cool too.

We love how cozy the perch by the window is, but it's looking a bit floppy...

I am not scared of color, so pops of color could be great, it's just tricky with the orange-ish hue of our walls and in particular our old pine floor I think.

Using lighter colors in your large, open room will make it feel more airy and bright

For your main color, we chose to use white/off-white as it offers a fresh, clean, feel to the space. White and off-white colors are often a favorite for walls because they are light, neutral, and match most color schemes. They are known to make rooms feel more airy and spacious.

Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
